Our last day

Hello everyone,

Hope you are all well and looking forward to seeing us tomorrow. We have all had an amazing time but we are excited to seeing our families and sleeping in our own bed!

The day skiing was totally brilliant - Mason and Miss Sinnott spent more time on their bottoms than they did upright, but it was such a laugh! The view from the mountains was amazing and Miss Fountain made us wrap up sooooo warm that we were sweating buckets by the end of it and even had to ditch a few layers. The weather has been cold but quite sunny so it was ideal for skiing. Miss Fountain took loads of pictures and we got a special certificate for taking part too!

Today (Friday) we have spent the whole day in school. We have been taking part in lessons and showing off our football skills on the playground - they were very impressed with the English football skills and even told the HT how good we all were.

We had a games afternoon and took part in volley ball, table football, ping pong and hand ball games, there was a ceremony for all the winners and we are proud to announce that the English won 2 medals so HUGE congrats to Mason and Alex for bringing the gold back!

We are hoping to have a drive around Lyon in the morning before going to the airport and Miss Fountain will text you all as soon as we are on the train and homeward bound!

Love to you all...we are off out to a posh restaurant for dinner tonight so have got our glad rags on!

Avignon and Valance

Hello everyone,

We are still having a brilliant time. Yesterday (Tuesday) we went to Avignon for the day. It took about 2 hours to get there on the bus, but it was lovely, and so it was worth it. We danced on the bridge and sang 'Sur la pont D'Avignon'....we will teach you it when we get back home. We then went to a lovely castle and luckily we had an audio guide in English so we learnt lots of interesting facts about the place. We had a packed lunch (just ham and cheese sandwiches this time......no rabbit thank goodness!!!!!) in the market square and then we had time to explore and do some shopping before we came home. We had our tea in school and then went to a traditional show with music and dance. Some of the other partner countries performed traditional songs and then we were all invited to dance - Mason, Alex and Miss Fountain were the first ones up on the stage and we had a brilliant time. We didn't get in until around 10.30pm, so it was a very late night for us.....Miss Fountain said it would be ok this once..... as long as we went to bed extra early to catch up on our sleep the next day!

Today (Wednesday) we went to school very early for breakfast again (7.00am) and then we played games with some of the staff whilst the teachers went to meet the mayor of Bourg de Peage. We then all went to a bakey museum and saw the 'pogne' being made - this is a special type of sweet bread and it is lush....we will try to bring some back with us. We got to taste all of the different kinds they make and actually see the bakers at work - it was very interesting. We then went to a show museum.....it was pretty cool and we all thought Mrs Thompson and Miss Gibson would have loved it! After lunch at school, we went on a short bus ride to Valance where we went ice skating......Mrs Emmerson was a total pro (as to be expected...) Miss Fountain and Miss Sinnott were unfortunately not so professional....in fact they made a right show of themselves and us too. We were glad that they had a go though, as loads of the other teachers didn't try it!

We have had a brilliant tea in school tonight with all of the French teachers - it was little slices of cheese that you cook yourself in a tiny pan under a hot plate and then when it has melted you pour it over the potatoes and meat on your plate....it was very cool and tasty too!

We are all off for an early night as we are skiing tomorrow and we are sooooooooooooooooo excited. We are spending the whole day in the mountains and so we need to be warpped up very, very warm.

Hope all is well back home, and at BB too!

Love to you all from the French Fancies x x x x

This is us next to the Comenius corner in the French school. We got a present for taking part in the project and so did all of the other children that are here. We had to go up and collect it when everyone was watching - we felt very important!

Hope you are not missing us too much. Miss Fountain keeps passing on your texts and messages from the blog, so keep them all coming!

Love to you all at home, from the French gang!

Jay.....

Hi Jay,

Thanks for all of your comments. It is fab to know that you are following our travels and you can have a happy certificate for being the first person in school to comment. I will text Mrs Thompson to let her know...but you can let her know in school too!

Keep the comments coming.

Day 4 - Romans

Hi everyone,

Had a very early start, we had to be ready and at the host school for 7.15am in time for breakfast. It was so hard getting up and Mrs Emmerson had to call our name a few times! It was so cold this morning so we all had to wrap up warm.
At the school we had a very traditional french breakfast of croissants, french toast and orange juice. Miss Fountain needed a few strong coffees to get alive and kicking this morning.

After breakfast we were made to stand in the large playground and were warmly welcomed with waving flags and the french children performed some traditional dances and songs for us. Next we looked around the school grounds and went into the classes. They were VERY different to ours. French children start school at 8am and finish at 5pm (4.30 for the younger children). They get a Wednesday off. The school was huge and children aged 3-16 attended. We spent most of our time in the primary part of the school. Some of the differences we spotted were that there was no children's work on the walls and hardly any bright and colourful displays like at BB. The children all had a certain seat in the classroom and worked at tables all of the time - even the nursery and reception children. When we went into the classrooms all of the children stood up to greet us - we felt very important! The children tried hard to speak to us in English and we practised our French. We saw lots of flags and information linked to the Comenius Project around the school.

The highlight of our day was lunchtime. Unlike the UK, children do not get to choose what they would like for lunch. On the menu today was rabbit leg...needless to say we didn't eat much (luckly we found a delicious pattiserie later). Mrs Emmerson and Miss Sinnott tried hard to eat the rabbit leg but Miss Fountain filled up on cheeses and salad instead.

After lunch we headed for a tour of the city where we are staying, Romans. We visited some churches and shops as well as some other landmarks of the city. Our guide bought us a delicacy to try, this was a sweet bread that French people eat at breakfast time, it tasted a little like hot cross buns.

Tomorrow we are off to Avignon for the day. We hope you are all keeping well.
